LEADING FROM ALIGNMENT EPISODE 128: A PLAYBOOK THAT MOVES YOUR ORGANIZATION TOWARD ITS VISION

Creating and casting a compelling vision is great, But a compelling vision without an easy to follow playbook leads to frustration. Today’s pod unpacks a simple approach to creating a winning playbook for the organization you lead.

Here are the show notes:

Using a football analogy, a playbook includes formations, and then plays you run from those formations.  Somebody has said, “every church has a playbook, but not every church knows what it is.”

A playbook is the term we use for strategy. It contains the formations and plays an organization runs over and over again to move the ball down the field toward the goal line of its vision. As an example, we run three formations at Converge Coaching:

  1. Formation 1: One-to-one
    • Plays: mentoring, coaching
  2. Formation 2: One or more to a small group
    • Plays: huddles, training, consulting
  3. Formation3: One or more to a large group
    • Plays: podcasting, blogging, book-writing

Our playbook isn’t etched in stone. It will morph over time as our organization moves toward its vision.

If you want to harness the energy vision creates, you need to identify your playbook, throw it out if stinks and devise a new one. Or, maybe it just needs some tweaking.

Why does a playbook matter?

  1. You already have a playbook . . . you just may not know what it is.
  2. Your current playbook may not be working for you.
  3. Your organization’s playbook may need some tweaking.
  4. A playbook gives legs to your vision.

You may need a fresh set of eyes on your organization when it comes to developing a winning playbook. Converge Coaching can help you identify, develop, and deploy one.
