You can have an enticing goal line, a brilliant playbook—but without the right players in the right positions, you won’t get to your destination. In today’s episode, Jim and John unpack how to discover and release the right players into the right roles.
Here are the show notes:
Right players
Patrick Lencioni describes three non-negotiable attributes that constitute the “right player.”
1. Humility
Great team players never trip over their own ego or longing for a title. When the organization wins, they are quick to point out the contributions of others and slow to seek attention for their own. Humble people don’t think more highly of themselves than they should – nor do they think more lowly of themselves than they should.
2. Hunger
The right team player has an insatiable desire to learn and grow. To take on more responsibility. They don’t have to be tightly managed. They possess a deep commitment to excellence and going the extra mile.
3. People Smarts
This attribute has nothing to do with IQ and everything to do with EI – emotional intelligence. When these three attributes come together, you have a leader in the making. Someone who can build teams.
Right Stuff
- Passion
- Pain
- Proficiency
We think it’s time to start developing and casting vision again. To roll up your sleeves with your team and figure out which plays you’re going to run to get you there. And to start having conversations with people to figure out if they’re the right people with the right stuff that absolutely need to join your team.
