In today’s episode we continue our series of podcasts on a leader’s well-being. We unpack three important questions: What does it mean to be properly related to yourself? How do you get there? And . . . why does it matter?
Our capacity to be properly related to those we love and lead begins with being properly related to ourselves.
- What does it mean to be properly related to yourself?
- Matthew 22:36-39
- The most important command in the Bible is really a 3-parter – it commands us to love God and to love our neighbor – but Jesus also commands us to relate to ourselves with love as well.
- Philippians 2:4: “Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Being properly related to yourself means you are not an either/or person, rather you are a both/and person.
- Matthew 22:36-39
- How do we get there?
- Truthful self-talk
- Psalm 139: Fearfully and wonderfully made.
- Ephesians 1:5: Adopted by Father God according to His will and pleasure.
- Galatians 4: We are sons and heirs.
- Reminding ourselves regularly that self-care is not selfish, and selfishness is not self-care.
- Understanding owning your well-being is a matter of obedience.
- Truthful self-talk
- Why does it matter?
- Longevity
- Limbic resonance
- Long-term fruit – John 15 – I have appointed you to bear fruit—fruit that will last.”
