We’ve been talking almost exclusively in 2024 about whole person wellbeing. We’ve talked about working on our wellbeing as a matter of obedience vs. preference; about developing a responsible relationship with ourself; about a new healthy rhythm: our capacity and the demand on that capacity. Today we continue talking about whole-person health by exploring our ubiquitous need for friendship.
Genesis 2:18: “It is not good for the man to be alone.”
What gets in the way of friendship?
- Fear
- Every relationship carries some degree of risk.
- If we get all our work done yet live in a relational desert, I don’t think we’ll get where God wants us to go.
- Busyness
- Impatience
- Deep friendship is cultivated by regular interaction over a long period of time.
- We will climb as high in life as the depth of our friendships.
Why should you care about this subject?
- Replenishing friendships significantly impact our health.
- Healthy friendships keep us safe.
Next steps for lonely leaders:
- Get on your knees and ask God to give you friends.
- Get intentional.
- Friendship rarely happens accidentally.
Friendship is not a matter of choice—it’s a matter of obedience.
