Today we welcome Mike Clarensau back to the mic for Part 2 of our conversation about the current health of the Church in America. In our discussion today we explore the role of coaching in church health, and the challenge of next gen leaders’ struggle with the call of God on their lives. Mike closes out our conversation with the best piece of advice he would give to local church pastors.
- What role do you see coaching playing in this season we are in and the next ten years?
- We have bought into an Old Testament style of leadership. Christ’s death eliminated that model.
- Coaching becomes the resource that helps us process reality.
- Tell us about the DISC assessments of leaders and why every personality can succeed in pastoral ministry?
- All personality types can succeed as pastors. That makes the pastoral profession unique among all other professions.
- What piece of advice would you give to local pastors and Network leaders?
- You are not losing.
- Evaluate success/effectiveness by leading consistently with how God wired you and what He has called you to do.
- Do you see a crisis in the next generation of leaders not joining the “full time” clergy? What can our generation do to help the next two generations of ministers?
- Build from within.
- Walk with them.
- Understand that this generation at this stage of their journey is much like we were like when we were their age.
- Be spiritual fathers and mothers to them.
