It’s not easy to finish. It’s even less easy to finish well. With the attrition of well-known ministry leaders over the past several years, you can begin to wonder, does anyone finish well?
The good news is that with intentionality, God’s help, and the help of our Christian brothers and sisters, we can finish well. In today’s podcast we consider three ideas that increase the chances of finishing our race in full stride.
Terry Walling in his book, Stuck, defines finishing well:
“Finishing well is a term that refers to reaching the end of one’s life and having been faithful to the calling God has placed on that life. Finishing well is about Christ-followers being more passionate about Christ and His mission as they near the end of their journey than they were in the beginning.”
Three ideas that increase our chances of finishing our race in full stride:
Idea 1: Go upward
- Intentionally create moments of meaningful connection with Him.
- Use a journal to record moments when God meets your needs miraculously or whispers words of clarity to you.
Idea 2: Go inward
- Socrates: “The unexamined life is not worth living.”
- Am I seeking God commensurate to the call and assignment of God in my life?
- Am I surrounding myself with people who can bring me to the next level of His purpose?
Idea 3: Go outward
- Hang around others who are enthusiastic followers and worshipers of Christ.
- Join a small group of believers with whom you can grow spiritually.
- You won’t finish your race well by yourself.
