How many lead pastors get in the way of people stepping up to serve just because the pastor tries to do it all? In today’s episode, John and Jim explore three master keys to getting out of your team’s way and releasing them to help share the ministry load.
Three master keys to getting out of our team’s way:
Master Key 1: Be clear
- Regular face time.
- Clarity is kindness.
Master Key 2: Be simple
- Church staff who try to be great at ten things usually end up being great at nothing.
- Strategically pick a few ministries that support the mission and focus there.
- Stop feeding horses nobody is riding.
Master Key 3: Be a developer
- Jim Wiegand: “Give everyone an assignment that displays what God put inside of them.”
- Provide opportunities to gain experience and advance.
- Give your team someone to look up to, to respect, to emulate.
3 final thoughts:
- Don’t be the guy who wants to hog all the work.
- Don’t be fooled into thinking you’re helping people when you do things for them that they are fully capable of doing themselves.
- Pastoral ministry possesses an invisible pull toward the micro (tactical) at the expense of the macro (strategic).
