It is amazing isn’t it that the Bible never gets boring, stale, or old? In today’s episode John and Jim explore one of the many timeless principles found in Genesis chapters 1 and 2 . . . Rhythms of the Garden.
You can listen to Episode 194 here. The video version is available here.
Daily Rhythm
- A creative burst of energy followed by a pause.
- God did this six times . . . for emphasis perhaps!
- Our daily work needs hard edges.
- Our daily work needs a finish line.
- All work and no play make us dull and anxious.
Sabbath Rhythm
- God created Adam and Eve on the sixth day, and then God rested.
- God blessed the seventh day and made it holy – Day 7 was different.
- This rhythm made it into the top ten commandments.
The Overarching Garden Rhythm
- Not only did God rest on the seventh day—so did Adam and Eve. Genesis 2:15 – “The Lord God took man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Their work started after the Sabbath rhythm.
- Working from rest postulates that we do not work so we can rest . . . we rest so we can work.
- Is it possible this third rhythm means that work and rest are synergists?
Why should you care about Garden Rhythms?
- Fruitfulness
- Longevity
- Remembering to whom our work ultimately belongs.
